OLD NOTE: talked with mom about her heritage. Her dad raised by step-mother who didn't like him (may be the reason he ultimately died of a stroke -- he had contracted rheumatic fever (?) as a child from being out so much). Mother died in childbirth for second child. Edward Radtke. Mother Mary Zeegan (Zeigan?). Mom's grandparents' German immigrants. Grandmother 1912, grandfather 1906. Mom had a client to guess on origins based on names, mentioning E. Berlin and (grandmother) Nowakalgo (sp?).

called Richard Ackley. Get together next week. He suggested everybody write up a "social contract" with clear expectations. Shaelene's expectations as well as IV expectations. Parents likely are concerned about manipulation, exploitation, etc. Don't trust white people. He said a Native person should be looking out for her, guiding, evaluating, and protecting (esp. for the sake of the community).

email I didn't send to Adam:
The whole faculty advisor thing is still kind of bothering me -- that feeling might just be telling me something about me, but maybe there is something else I should do.
I thought about reaching out to Mark, but assume it was a private conversation in which he spoke to you about it. What do you think about this?
--------
Hi Mark,
Adam and I were talking about the faculty group the other day, and he mentioned you were considering becoming an advisor for a new Chi Alpha Christian group. I don't want to interfere with any call you may be considering in that regard, but at the risk of awkward timing, I had been hoping to talk to you after the end of the year rush.
With some of our longtime advisors nearing retirement (Ken and Alan), it is our hope that younger Christian faculty like you and Arnie might consider phasing in to the role.
God has always provided for LCF, so matters of this sort should never be pursued with a scarcity mentality, but I'm sure you are aware that the LCF students have responded well to your service and contacts with them. You certainly could continue to be involved with LCF as you have time, whatever your role with Chi Alpha (for several years Fellowship of Christian Athletes took me on as a volunteer staff so I could help with an FCA group at LU, though the students eventually decided a united LCF with an Athletes' Bible study fit the campus better).
The matter of Christian unity/not competing has come up a number of times over the years at LU (with Cru, FCA, HisHouse, and now Chi Alpha as well as a couple of non-evangelical groups). It is an important issue on a small campus -- our current partnership with HH is, thankfully, one that has gone very well.
