Organizational strategy by plan and repository

Goal

The theory behind this "Organizer" site is that this form (a wiki) can be used as a top-level access point to all the other parts of my personal knowledge base, if not by direct hyperlink, then at least by reference. In addition, it contains a notes blog to retain otherwise uncategorizable or unstructured information.

Options

The challenge is to organize my personal knowledge base

• • to handle both structured and unstructured (unique or hard to categorize) information

  • to use strategies that reflect the primary mode of accessing and conceptualizing, such as

    • time (by date, version)

    • person (contact management)

    • role (IV staff, family, personal)

    • task or project

    • concept (hierarchy or outlines)

Different available strategies have their own strengths

    • gtasks (simple tasks)

    • web page wikis, esp.

      • hyperlinked pages

      • hierarchical outlines and subpages

      • blogs

    • syncable bookmarks

  • local PC solutions (with synced folders)

    • folders organized by project and role

  • file cabinets (with cloud indices)

  • traditional software (mostly here for reference and a reminder of legacy info.)

    • askSam - done or lost

    • ECCO - some useful info. still stored as a hierarchical wiki

    • ACT! - there is still probably usable contact information that hasn't been extracted yet 4/9/13 UPDATE: I did a whole file dump a month or so ago (wouldn't have gotten relational data stuff)

    • Outlook - no useful info. here beyond old email

      • Classic Sites is deprecating, so post hierarchy might be threatened. Though I might be able to replace many Posts with individual Google docs. Gdocs also doesn't have (yet) the annoying GUI interface.

    • The new sites organizes posts into docs I think, so I might end up using more of these.

    • TEAMS. A folder structure in Docs is set up to mirror TEAMS organization so docs can be stored in the matching Team/Channel folder.

      • at this point, seems like mostly a dumbed-down OneNote, see personal wiki notes

      • maybe use for READ ME, policy, or reference material to describe teams or channels (though Gdocs easier to use)

    • Holds random notes (by date blog)

    • Holds random IV work/progress notes (by date blog), esp. meetings w/ people

  • People Log (gspreadsheet in lcf-lu) see info on inserting pics and using as db

    • Meeting Notes in Organizer has mostly replaced this. I can still use it for infrequent contacts, perhaps donors.

    • mostly for progress notes for appointments/contacts with people, form in organizer

    • entry with date stamp, sortable by date or name, filter keys

  • Trello (computer and phone app) TESTED for a while
