subject: Native InterVarsity and Would Jesus Eat Frybread?
Kweh Francis and President Guillory,
My name is Megan Murdock Krischke and I am a member of the Wyandotte Tribe of Oklahoma and I am the director of Native InterVarsity--a campus ministry for Native students.
I visited your office in August and met Francis and my colleague Lynn Gill stopped by in September and I believe she had a chance to speak with President Guillory.
I wanted to write to tell you a bit more about our organization and a conference we have coming up.
Native InterVarsity is part of a larger national campus ministry known as InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Our desire is to see student led communities on campuses that provide a space for students to learn about and follow Jesus while honoring their cultures and families. (learn more about Native InterVarsity and InterVarsity at these links)
We would love to see a community like this at NWIC but need some help making some initial student contacts. If you know of students who might be interested in such an organization, could you help us connect with them? Or is there someone else who could help us make these connections?
Similarly, we have a conference called Would Jesus Eat Frybread? coming up November 8-10 in Phoenix, AZ (check out the promo video). I would be willing to make sure the registration and travel costs for two students from NWIC would be covered, if there were interested students. But again, could use some help in connecting with potential students. One way to do that would be to hang some posters--Here is the link to the poster and flyers. Could you hang a few posters on campus to see if there is any interest? Find more info on the conference here.
One final note, while I was in Bellingham, I met with June Cox who willing to help facilitate getting a group started at NWIC and who would be open to considering traveling with any students wanting to come to WJEF. If there are staff or faculty who would like to attend WJEF to learn more about our organization, I would be very open to having them attend.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide in helping us to make some initial student contacts. It was wonderful to visit your campus and see all that you are offering Native students. I pray that your efforts to love, serve and develop Native students will be protected and blessed by Creator.
Tizhameh,
Megan
Students of Willie and Megan (same class, '05). Supportive, but won't help much on campus.
