05/23/19 MPD. Shaelene. In the village of Naknek people are excited about what she is doing. A big deal that they go. Pple want them to succeed. They know that it is important that she is welcoming students from around the state. Plenty of reasons for people to be excited. It will bless them.

When are people ready to identify? Importance of the Native part of that identify. But he holds it loose, some people aren't ready for it. RA avoids value judgments.

collective, not personal identity. V. important for people.
RA's tribe more inclusive (more Christian, he says) than Oneida -- they accept lineal descent.

next WJEF as observer/ resident elder. This is a chance to meet people personally. He knows people there (sister in law nun in Tucson) and also wants to connect with the Cook Foundation.
He still wants to focus on the intergenerational protocol, by which he means relational, building connections where we go. Zoom he doesn't like, not personal.
Brought up Kendra. I should ask her to write a personal statement about her orientation with Richard. What was helpful about the relational protocol of connection-building? What would have made it more helpful? [aside, RA's friend Jackson there, staff at Lac DF, said they are getting rid of the administrator rather than the teacher over Kendra]
